Christ by Ghislaine Howard
Met with Amanda at the Booth Centre yesterday, which is a drop in centre for the city’s homeless. We sat in the garden, drank tea and discussed how we could work together in the future. I suggested we run a shortened version of Steve’s Re:Generate course in Salford. Amanda emailed today to say that the centre users are really keen on doing the photography course so I shall organise it asap. After the meeting I popped in to the cathedral, wandered around and took a few photos, inside and out. I had a chat with the lovely Joyce Hurst and listened to some young musicians (aged about 9) play complicated recitals on the piano. I would have loved to stay for the regular Tuesday Cheetham’s lunchtime concert but I had to head back to the office. Things to do. Things to do.
Anyway, there are some amazing religious canvases on display by the artist Ghislaine Howard depicting Christ at various traumatic times in his life. I admired them, photographed them and was about to leave when a minister floated over and replenished the candle tray. “Just in case you wish to light one”, he said, beaming at me. What a nice idea I thought, so I lit a sweet little tea light for my daddy.
