WEA Creative is ...

Workers’ Educational Association
Inclusive Outreach

Founded in 1903 by Albert Mansbridge, the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) is the UK’s largest voluntary provider of adult education, employing some 5,000 people (including sessional teaching staff).

The WEA is committed to widening participation and to enabling people to realise their full potential through learning.

In essence then, we’re rather good at getting out and about into the heart of communities and reaching isolated, non-traditional learners. We take the learning to the learners by putting on courses in halls, schools and meeting rooms in neighbourhood areas in what can be described as ‘inclusive outreach’.

We have three offices in the North West: Liverpool (Head Office), Manchester, and Workington in Cumbria.

Our courses can last from two hours to 120 hours and there is a wide range of topics from which to choose, including: Egyptology, Women’s Studies, Bird Watching, Maths, Chinese Painting, Yoga, Digital Embroidery, Philosophy, Creative Writing, to name but a few.

WEA Creative is dedicated to celebrating all things artistic and creative. Our aim is to design and deliver wonderful, creative, learning experiences for adults in the North West. Quilt making, sugar craft, digital photography, playwriting, musical composition, and printed textiles, are just some of the courses we have put on over the past few months.

This website is an area where tutors will not only showcase their learners’ work but also provide links to other learning opportunities in the North West. Simply click on one of the five geographical areas (Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire, Lancashire and Cumbria) to find out what’s going on in your neighbourhood.

We will also endeavour to keep you up-to-date with the latest exhibitions, films, theatre performances, previews and job opportunities, so be sure to check in often.

Hope to see you on one of our courses very soon.

Best wishes, the WEA Creative team

WEA North West

Learning with the WEA is exciting and rewarding. Our courses are organised for adults and so it is not at all like the classes you remember from school.

Our classes are usually informal and friendly, you will be welcomed into the class and your views and experience will be valued. We know that adults bring a wide range of skills and experience to the class and our tutors help to direct that experience and knowledge to support the learning that takes place.
